DeYoung Natural Area Dedication and Hikes
The Leelanau Conservancy and Elmwood Township will hold a dedication of the DeYoung Natural Area on Cedar Lake on Thursday, June 10th. The official dedication will take place at 4:30 pm; hikes will be offered at 3:00, 3:30 and 4:00 pm. Hikes will include a “Water Trail Tour,” “Historical Building Walk,” “Farming at DeYoung: Past and Present” and a Kid Friendly hike. Attendees are encouraged to bring a water bottle. Meet guides at the lower barn, and attend as many hikes as you want.

Birdiology 103- Habitat Heaven at Kehl Lake
Dorothy was right—there is no place like home. Discover how birds make the most of their preferred real estate. Watch for some birdy abodes as you amble the gentle path at Kehl Lake with docents Bobbie Poor, Sharon Oriel and Holly Pharmer. Bug repellent and sunscreen recommended. Binoculars optional.

Early Summer Hike at the Chippewa Run Natural Area
Join docents Ann Mason, Lou Ricord and Roland at Chippewa Run and learn about the Chippewa (Ojibwa) Native American activities in the area. Discover the early summer wildflowers, like orange hawkweed, goat’s beard, blue flag iris. Be on the lookout for area’s colorful birds like red-winged blackbirds and red-eyed vireos. We’ll next head over to the old beaver pond to see what birds are singing there.

Second Annual M-22 Challenge

This triathlon celebrates the beauty and recreation opportunities found in Leelanau. As a bonus, part of the event proceeds will benefit the Leelanau Conservancy. The event is put on by the folks who make M22 clothing and other items (they also donate 1% of their gross sales to us on these items!). The Challenge includes a bike around Big and Little Glen Lake, a Dune Climb run, and a one-mile paddle on Little Glen. Registration is $75 and will be limited to 300.
