Do You REALLY Need Your Car?
For some people, cars are a necessity. They need a car to get to and from work, and other places. But for many others, car’s are certainly not a requirement.
People that live in big cities, for example, often don’t need a car, but own a car, even if they’re only using it every once in a while.
With the economic and environmental problems facing us today, we pose the question; “Do you really need your car?”
And, we also ask this question, because, ahem, we want you to sell your used car to us, especially if you live close by, in the NYC area, but that’s another story.
Let’s start with the economic reasons. If you sell your car you’ll save money. A lot of money.
Whether you drive a total beater, or a nice, expensive, luxurious gas-guzzler, selling your car will certainly save you money. That’s because in nearly all instances, mass transit and other forms of commuting are cheaper than owning, maintaining, and fueling a car.
- You’ll abolish your monthly car insurance bill.
- Say goodbye to gas bills on your credit card, which keep adding up.
- Oh, and that car loan (if you have one) it’s gone if you sell your car.
Depending on your current situation, selling your car could save you a few hundred, to over a thousand or more dollars a month.
That savings isn’t chump change, so if you don’t necessarily need your car, you may think about selling it.
Or you can think about selling your car for even “greener” reasons.
Cars are not green, by any means, so selling your car will decrease your “carbon footprint” significantly. Want to lead a greener, more eco-conscious life? Sell your car.
If you sell your car in NYC to lead a cleaner, greener life, your alternatives are:
- Mass transit; a FAR greener a means of travel than your car is.
- Walking or biking to your destinations. It doesn’t get any greener than that!
But What if you still need a Car Occasionally?
Some people own a car only because they need it very occasionally. This makes car ownership expensive and impractical, but still a necessity. Say you only need your car on weekends, or otherwise very infrequently. You feel like you can’t sell your car, because you still need it sometimes.
Consider a new phenomenon: Car-sharing. Check out sites like craigslist, or visit zipcar.com, for more information about car sharing. This could be your solution, and would be a lot less expensive than car ownership.
